Phobia Symptoms
If you have an irrational fear or extreme anxiety over situations or specific objects you may have a phobia. Striking more than 1 in 10 people, phobias tend to run in famlies and are more common in women. When exposed to the feared object or situation the person may experience extreme fear that is out of proportion to the real threat. Often just the thought of facing the feared object can bring on a panic attack. This leads to avoidance of the source of their fear to the point of interfering with their jobs and social life.
Other symptoms may include: Poor motor control, sweating, rapid heart rate, fear of dying and loss of self-esteem.
